What a crazy month August has been – so busy with everyone arriving at what seems to be all at the same time – lots of complaints about not being able to book restaurants when you want to go to a specific one on a specific day, traffic everywhere, parking issues, difficulties hiring cars/boats due to the high demand – but is that not normal anyway in the summer season?! It can only be a good thing for Menorca as we hopefully are now easing out of the pandemic – at the time of writing this foreword, the covid cases are well on their way down and thank goodness for that. Let’s hope that businesses have been able to recoup some downturn from last year and can continue to survive going forward – it is vital to support the local communities where possible as well – optimism is a great attribute and we should all try to embrace it as much as we can. September will hopefully continue to be buoyant but with a bit less chaos for those of us who live here!
Despite all the optimism we should be happy for, it is with great and devastating sadness that I have to let you know that Duncan, the Editor has passed away. He was a great personal family friend for over 30 years and will be so sorely missed. Duncan loved Menorca with a passion – he and his wife Katie and their two children Cameron and Anna had a holiday home here for nearly 40 years in S’Algar and as families we have had such wonderful times together. Duncan also deeply loved this magazine – his dedication was unsurpassed and he really enjoyed meeting so many different people and engaging with the local communities, businesses, so many of whom became great friends of his too and I thank you all on his behalf for enriching his time spent here in Menorca.
Going forward, Roqueta will continue as it always has done, Duncan would want that and I would like to thank you all for your continued support – it is very much appreciated.
In the meantime, please do enjoy this September edition and perhaps we should reflect on our lives to really make the most of the time we have to enjoy the beauty of Menorca when we are here – it really is a very special Island. Have a lovely September wherever you are!
