Congratulations, we made it through 2020. Thank goodness. Yes, it was very very bad, but we will hopefully soon move-on to pastures new. And the next generation will confine it to the history books like we have done with the great London plague.
Thanks to all of you for sticking with the magazine. The readers who answered the call to have a digital subscription. We do hope it has allowed you to keep in touch with the island. Hurrah to all the contributors who have without fail filed copy so varied and interesting. Superstars all.
And of course, the advertisers. Tough times for businesses. We know we had so few UK visitors, so it’s been a low take-up by you this year. Quite understandable. The early signs are encouraging that the island will hopefully be returning to numbers similar to the last few years. Fingers crossed.
As we all do, we follow the news feeds all the time. Things are looking cautiously optimistic. Spain like the UK will be going top guns getting the vaccine out to its population, so both countries will have a large percentage sorted and most importantly safe. The tour operators are also making positive noises. And our postbag suggests that our regular visitors who come most years to Menorca can’t wait to return. They have really missed their annual visit.
Of course, the doom mongers will be asking if anyone will ever travel again. Our view is that yes, they will. A short two hour hop from the UK to Menorca, safe clean airports and planes, the vaccine safely deposited in our bodies, our beautiful island, then it all adds up to happy days again.
We will be raising a glass of cava at midnight on the 31 December and drink to 2021, and then perhaps a few more glasses so we forget 2020.
From Angie and myself, we toast you all for a pleasant holiday period and an upbeat New Year. As our 2021 resolution we promise to get an up to date photo of ourselves for the spring edition. People don’t recognise us (me) anymore.
