Despite all the doom and gloom, here at ROQUETA we are delighted to welcome you to this Autumn edition of the magazine. To be honest it has been quite a long old slog producing the magazine this year when surrounded by such negativity: but we have achieved it. The toil to do so has lifted our spirits each month. We are doing something positive and hopefully helped both the residents and frequent visitors to ‘keep in touch’ with this magical island.
We wondered if we should rename this Welcome page as it sounds too positive. Suggestions included some more down beat welcome sentiments. What about a plain and simple ‘Hello’? However, we made an editorial decision to stick with it. We know you, the reader, remain fantastically upbeat about Menorca and so ROQUETA should reflect this and look forward to next year, still enjoying the island whilst embracing ‘the new normal’. It may not be quite the same, but we can all adapt and embrace and make sure our glass always remains half full.
So, for next year. What about heading the page: ‘Welcome Back’. Not only to visitors, but for those living here, the island returning to some state of normality. Something we would all ‘Welcome back’.
The regular contributors have been fantastic with their unwavering support. Each month filing copy so we can try to produce a magazine that is a varied and interesting read. I am not sure how many other destinations like Menorca would have created such a close bond, a family united. Thank you.
The societies and articles in Local News have been less this year, but I sense from this month’s contributions that you are feeling some optimism about the future and see a few green shoots emerging. Fingers crossed.
Well let’s enjoy autumn, a really lovely time of the year on the island. It is getting a little cooler, we have some extremes of weather as the photograph on the front cover illustrates. But also some stunning light and a colourful seasonal countryside. It’s exciting. Quite a few places may be closed, but if you are on the island at this time of year, I am sure you will have your own favourite venues that you know are open where you regularly visit.
One more edition this year – the Winter/Xmas edition. We, at the magazine, are looking forward to this. It seems a good opportunity for us all to take stock and re-boot our lives.
With Xmas in mind, you know what the perfect present is – a year’s subscription to ROQUETA. Help keep your friends and families in touch with Menorca. We are only offering the digital version for subscription. The annual cost is 40 euros for 8 editions.
