We have had very positive feedback from you about the environmental stand we took in the April edition. You seem to have strong opinions about all aspects of the subject, and obviously with Menorca in your hearts want to maintain what we love for future generations.
The more we look into the subject, the more opportunities we see for Menorca to create a stamp for others to admire and follow. Javier Méndez, who writes every month about wildlife, has some interesting observations in his article this month.
It is funny how an edition of ROQUETA develops. We of course have a plan for say seventy percent of the content each month but like to leave a few gaps for the unexpected to happen. We think this keeps the magazine fresh and not predictable and boring.
May in Menorca is a spectacular month for nature. The island is awash with colour from an abundance of wild flowers in the fields, and so lush after all the winter rain. It is also the time to get out into your own garden too, and Glennis has been kind enough to write a number of articles to help you on your way.
This May edition seems to have a bit of a food and drink vibe running through it. We have the usual chef’s recipes, plus a new section on Fruit and Veg of the month, an artisan section, a very interesting article by Michael and Alison on Menorcan wines, and an extended Eating Out section.
With the interest shown in the Menorcan environment and the question of sustainability raised in the April edition of ROQUETA we are planning a Question Time style evening for readers with this as the subject. We are in the process of assembling a panel of experts to answer your questions on local matters such as energy including solar, water, waste, tourism, the sea and any topics that you find pressing for the island. The working title is The Environment Matters – how you too can play your part in Menorca. Not a very snappy title at the moment I am afraid. The date will be Thursday 14 June 2018. More information to follow, but it will be free to attend as always. Register now with angie@roquetamagazine.net and we will send you more details over the next few weeks.
The island has a lot of things planned for spring and summer: much variety and choice. We have summarised some of the bigger ones in what we have called the Menorca Events Programme. We love the sound of everything we have listed, but we are particularly looking forward to the Royal Ascot style Hats and Horses at the Hippodrome in Sant Lluís.
Despite the never-ending winter this year, all the social groups and charities have continued as strong as ever. A few drops of rain aren’t going to put these people off. Rain or shine. We have a couple of new ones to add to the regulars. You are all welcome and do a great job in raising so much money for local charities. Oh, and having some fun on the way too.
Get your shorts and t-shirts out of the back of the cupboard. Dust down the bathers. Enjoy the sunshine.
Let me know if anything is on your mind, or content you would like to be considered in future editions of ROQUETA at duncan@roquetamagazine.net.
