- Drive on the right-hand side of the road. Take care at roundabouts.
- When joining a main road and crossing lanes, many junctions have a holding area in the middle of the road. This allows you to cross the first lane and then filter into the far lane when the road is clear. Take your time.
- Any driving offences will be notified to the authorities in the UK and can be added to your license at home.
- The drink driving limit for alcohol is 50 mg alcohol per 100ml of blood. For an average size man, this equates to approximately two glasses of wine with dinner. You may be on holiday, but that does not mean you can break the local regulations. If going out prepare as at home: don’t drink, have a designated driver, take a taxi or public transport.
- Parking is awkward and many more areas now have a ticketing system. The instructions are in Spanish but still easy to follow. Display the ticket prominently. If in a hire car then any fines received will be passed on to you.
- Take great care on roundabouts. Local drivers are taught to drive around in the outside lane, even if they are turning left. The inside lane is only for overtaking.
