Here we go and into autumn already. But as you will see in Glennis’s gardening column, autumn in Menorca is not like it is in the UK. There, everything is being prepared for the cold winter ahead. The trees are beginning to turn, green leaves giving way to autumnal hues of brown and red and gold.
Here, on the other hand, autumn rains are beginning to revive the dry and dusty landscape of summer and the world is becoming green once more. No wonder this time of year is sometimes known here as primavera de hivern: winter’s spring.
We have taken this same positive attitude, this idea of a fresh start, into what we are calling the Autumn edition of ROQUETA, which is coming out in early October. The next edition will be the Winter issue, that will hit the stalls in late November. And then nothing until April.
What will Angie and I do with ourselves? Get ready for next year perhaps and try and get ahead of ourselves for a change?
Thinking of the year ahead, we have already looked at making some small changes in layout. We have split the magazine into three sections. The general information with Island News, interviews and other goodies is at the front; the second section on local news will now be found in the middle of the magazine and contains all the usual reports on the societies and charities. The third section, at the back, is the autumn specific section, with recipes, fashion and more. Angela even has a list of recommended Halloween books in the Book Club.
All the old favourites can still be found. Nothing has been lost. You may just need an extra minute to locate one or two of the articles you normally seek out.
We have two really interesting interviews in this edition: one with the mayor of Mahón, the other with the man who has masterminded all the achievements on the Isla del Rey. Javier takes us on a trip to see the migrating birds, which sounds like an amazing experience. On the same note, have you seen your first robin yet? Many, although not all, flee the UK in early October to spend the winter in our warmer climate.
So, another edition full of a real variety of content. We hope you will find most of it interesting and relevant.
If you are thinking of Christmas presents already, then what about a subscription to ROQUETA for a friend or relative, especially those who love the island but only visit for a few weeks a year. Visit the website – https://roquetamagazine.net/subscribe/. It’s a simple process.
